Coffee Chats: Trends for 2023, Popular Baby Names + Dad Jokes
Today, it’s just us as we sit down for a coffee chat on all the trends for 2023 and what’s out from 2022. Sometimes when you are listening to a podcast you just want to zone out and be entertained and this is one of those episodes. Lighthearted entertainment where you may possibly learn something. And to note, everything discussed is just our opinions and gathered from the resources listed.
So, before we begin, we thought it would be fun to share our go-to coffee drinks since this is a coffee chat. For Cari, she is on the more “boring” side with just coffee with a bit of stevia or cream. Where Bailey, honestly is pretty similar sticking to a little vanilla creamer and stevia but does enjoy a mocha every now and then or an iced beverage on a hot day.
In this episode, we chat about What is “In” and “Out” for this year, the most popular baby names from 2022 (what ones are trending for 2023), and dad jokes.
What’s “Out” and “In” for Cari + Bailey
We start off by talking about what we personally want to see out for 2023 and Cari goes first. She is looking to have “out” her skin peel off as well as illness. For a little more details, on her skin she started off the year right by getting a TCA peel which can have some great benefits like preventing basal cell cancer. And illness because everyone has just been so sick this year from family, friends, and clients. It’s time for everyone to be healthy!
Then Bailey took a slightly different approach by going more social lifestyle since she is a big foodie. And she is ready to see the butter board hit the road for 2023. If you don’t know what a butter board is, it’s a communal board where you take butter, smear it on a board, and sprinkle it with things like sea salt, some herbs, or other things like that. And you dig in with bread! Bailey prefers charcuterie boards and her butter melted on something like popcorn.
On the flip side, something Bailey would like to see more of (which you might disagree with) is the flared pant. It allows your legs to breathe especially when always in leggings. The skinny jean will always have their place but hoping the flared yoga pant (and pants in general) stays.
We understand though, it can be hard to stay on top of the trends and spend over a hundred dollars for it to then be out. Plus, where do you store it all? Bailey has a great tip: stick with getting only a couple of items that are more on the neutral side, have better quality, and can last longer than a year. Then, if something hasn’t been worn in over a year (an entire four seasons) donate it.
The Glossy Guide Trends for 2023 (and Out from 2022)
The Glossy guide offered their own opinion on what they think is in and what’s out for this year. We are going to chime in with our thoughts on their list.
Night Lux vs That Girl
First up on the list is Night Lux is in and That Girl is out. If you don’t know what That Girl is, don’t worry, we didn’t either. But basically, it is the girl who gets up in the morning, journals, shows her coffee, wears matching workout sets, and is trying to be “that girl”. Instead, 2023 is about night looks and getting ready. You may go to a nice candlelit dinner all dressed up. This may be more relatable to some than others!
Boy Brow vs Bleached Brow
The next is boy brow, the fluffy and thicker brow to a now bleached brow, aka bleaching your brow. This is a trend we are not agreeing with or will be doing anytime soon. If you already have blonde hair this could work for you compared to brunettes. It reminds Cari of the minute you pluck them, then there’s no coming back, there may be no recovery. But hey, if you think bleached brows are in and we are getting it totally wrong, let us know!
Barbiecore vs Cottagecore
Get ready, barbiecore is taking on 2023, and cottagecore is getting left back in 2022. If you aren’t sure what barbiecore is it’s essentially dressing up in hot pink. And it looks to have gone viral from Kim Kardashian and Margot Robbie. This is the year of bright and colors. Whereas last year with cottagecore it was more neutral and gave grandma coastal vibes. Wearing sweater vests and sweaters over your shoulder. Again, we feel like we would be more prone to wear the cottagecore style unless it was a hot pink workout set, but who knows?
Lifestyle brand vs Mission-Driven Brand
And now, lifestyle brand is out and mission-driven is in. We think it means exactly what it says, supporting a charity or buying a brand for that purpose. So, focusing on more local, small business or mission-driven companies. We can definitely get on board with that Glossy Guide!
Siren Eyes vs Doll Eyes
The trends are ever changing. Which means Siren eyes are in and unfortunately, doll eyes are headed out. The siren eye is more like a cat eye or when you are ‘smizing’. It’s a vibe, more sultry. Then doll eyes are large like doe eyes. We don’t go out much but if we do, Cari will try it and take a picture.
Minimalism vs Maximalism
Right off the bat, we disagree with this one. Bailey was just telling Cari how her whole goal for this year was to be more minimalistic in every aspect of her life. So, this would be the opposite of that. It’s trying to use up all your space and has lots of colors and things. And if that’s your style or personality, awesome! But it definitely stresses us out.
Spa for Pleasure vs Spa for Pain
Our last one, which we found interesting is spa for pleasure is out and spa for pain is in. So, Bailey was thinking this meant massages are out and spa treatments like chemical peels, laser, and facial-type things are in. Or maybe a massage that’s more pressure or trigger point massage that’s taking care of an issue versus just going there to relax. We could definitely do a hybrid but each their own.
There you have it, there are a lot more on this Glossy Guide list and if you are interested in checking it out, you can find it here.

Dad Jokes
To end we share a few dad jokes because who doesn’t need a good laugh? And remember, delivery always helps! Here are some that we love:
“What part of the body always loses?” “Defeet!”
“Why don’t they play poker in the jungle?” “Too many cheetahs!”
“What did the hamburger name its baby?” “Patty”
These are so amazing, corny, appropriate, and ones you can repeat!
